Tarim Oilfield Company is affiliated to China National Petroleum Corporation. It is China's third largest oil and gas field and the main source of gas for the West-to-East Gas Pipeline. It supplies gas to a population of approximately 400 million people and over 3,000 enterprises in about 120 large and medium-sized cities across 15 provinces in eastern and northern China.

The Tarim Oilfield sprawls across a vast area, where a great number of oil well sites scatter. The frontline production is located in harsh natural environments of Gobi Desert. Satellite communication systems alone cannot meet the needs of oilfield operation. The existing wireless communication system can only be used within the area. In case of accidents, rescue work cannot be arranged and deployed in a timely manner, and information transmission is inaccurate and untimely, which would jeopardize the safety of people and assets.

It is capable of relaying information among the onsite team and to the command center. Better situational awareness facilitates more efficient and reasonable decision making.
